Staff Lawyer
Mississauga Community Legal Services is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario. We provide legal advice and representation to low-income residents of the City of Mississauga in various areas of law. We focus our work in the areas of housing and homelessness, immigration law, workers’ rights, income security, violence and health, in conjunction with community development and organizing work to address systemic issues of social exclusion, displacement and poverty.
The clinic is seeking experienced Lawyers to join our team on a contract and permanent bases.
We are looking for lawyers with several years of experience in one or more areas of law: immigration, housing, employment, or income maintenance. The successful candidate will represent clients before various tribunals and courts, deliver public legal education sessions, and play an active role in community outreach, law reform, and community development initiatives.
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a committed team advancing access to justice for low-income residents of Mississauga. Qualifications Include:
- At least 2 plus years of experience in providing legal advice and representation before administrative tribunals and courts;
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
- Proven experience providing access to justice for people living with poverty is required;
- A self-starter who is able to manage multiple priorities in a high volume service delivery environment;
- Experience leading or contributing to a law reform or community development initiative;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; fluency in both English and French and/or other languages is highly desirable;
The salary range is $85,677 -$111,789 commensurate with level of experience along with a comprehensive health and dental benefits, four weeks of vacation and a defined pension plan.

Community Development Coordinator, One year Contract

The clinic is seeking an experienced Community Development Coordinator to join our team.
The role will lead planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating of the outreach, community development and public legal education actives within the clinic. The role will seek out opportunities in the community for systemic advocacy and law reform activities with the legal team.
The successful candidate will focus on establishing and building long-term partnership with external community partners and stakeholders through community initiatives. The role will represent the clinic on different Work-group and taskforce within the city of Mississauga or the Region of Peel.
The successful candidate must have post-secondary education in a related field, and multiple years of community development along with digital marketing experience is highly desirable. Must have knowledge of the Mississauga community and its resources, including an understanding of poverty in Peel region and the unique issues and challenges our community experiences. We are seeking a Volunteer Board Member
Are you a finance professional looking to make a meaningful impact in your community? We are currently seeking a dedicated individual with a strong background in finance, accounting, or related fields to join our Board of Directors. This individual will initially serve as a general Board Director and will receive support and mentorship to step into the role of Treasurer, ensuring a smooth leadership transition and continuity in financial oversight.
The MCLS Board members require a skill set to oversee the running of a Community Legal Clinic. The most important qualities we look for in Board members are commitment, enthusiasm and knowledge of the issues impacting the lives of those in our community who are marginalized. As well, having knowledge of and interest in community development. Also, having knowledge of the governance of business and operations of non-profit organizations serving the local community of Mississauga is essential.
The Board is seeking and encouraging applications from Black and Indigenous individuals and individuals from diverse, racialized, and marginalized communities and backgrounds who are reflective of our diverse community who possess Human Resources, Legal backgrounds and other professional experience. We are particularly interested in individuals with a background or skill set in finance or business.
Commitments of board members include the following:
- Preparing for and attending monthly Board meetings (approximately 5-15 hours each month) and participate in at least one Board committee (Policy, Board Recruitment, Training, Finance, Personnel and Bargaining).
- The Treasurer role will specifically support the Board in overseeing the Corporation’s finances by coordinating with relevant parties, presenting financial reports, recommending financial policies, acting as a signing officer, and performing additional duties as assigned by the Board.
- Attending a one day-long planning session and the Annual General Meeting in October of each year.
- Participating in occasional Board orientation and development that accommodate members’ schedules.

- A commitment to exercise accountability to the membership of MCLS
- Commitment to carry out Board work in alignment with the MCLS anti-racism and anti- oppressive framework.

Term:
Be available to serve a minimum of a 2-year term and a monthly commitment of 5-15 hours per month. Members of the Board are volunteers and serve without remuneration.
